My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. —The Bible, John 17:20-23 (NIV)
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. —The Bible, Romans 8:26-27 (NIV)

"He who cannot cast his burden upon the Lord must bear it himself." —O. Hallesby, The Christian Life in Light of the Cross

On this occasion the oath I have taken before you and before God is not mine alone, but ours together. We are one nation and one people…If we fail now then we will have forgotten in abundance what we learned in hardship: that democracy rests on faith, that freedom asks more than it gives, and the judgment of God is harshest on those who are most favored.
If we succeed it will not be because of what we have, but it will be because of what we are; not because of what we own, but rather because of what we believe.
For myself, I ask only in the words of an ancient leader: "Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?" —Lyndon B. Johnson, Inaugural Address, January 20, 1965

Barack’s Pick Is Biden Senator Barack Obama ended months of speculation when on August 23 he named Senator Joe Biden as his running mate. In Biden he gets a seasoned veteran who has served in Congress since 1973—a venerable 35 years.
A Roman Catholic, Biden lost his young wife and infant daughter in a tragic automobile accident in 1972, just after his successful election to the Senate. His two young sons were also critically injured in the accident but both made full recoveries.
You can learn more about Senator Biden on his profile page on our Pray the Vote website.
Popular Author Prays at Democratic Convention Donald Miller (Blue Like Jazz, Through Painted Deserts, Searching for God Knows What), a popular young evangelical author was invited to pray the closing prayer after Monday night’s opening session.
One of several evangelicals tapped to lend their credibility at both conventions, Miller emphasized the word “I” as he closed his prayer with the following words: “I make these requests in the name of your son, Jesus, who gave his own life against the forces of injustice.”

For Some It’s the Hardest Part I was recently in the gym working out when a trainer came over to speak with me. We began discussing the equipment in the gym. He said, “John, do want to know what’s the hardest, the most difficult piece of equipment in here?” I was full of anticipation; I wanted to go right over and try it out. He said, “It’s the front door. If people can just get through the front door, their workout goes to another level.”
 |
It is the same for our prayer life. If we can get through the front door of our prayer life, setting aside deliberate time to pray and get into Scripture, we’ve begun to exercise our prayer muscles.
That’s what we strive to help you do here at The Presidential Prayer Team. We want to help you open the front door of your prayer life, giving you tools to strengthen your prayer muscles! We know that learning about and practicing prayer for your country will help your prayer life in other areas as well. May you be encouraged and strengthened as you exercise your “prayer muscles.” Check out our latest resource, A Grandparent’s Prayer Journal.

PPT members have responded enthusiastically to our 40 Days to Pray the Vote daily emails. If you have not participated in this effort, we urge you to sign up today! Unsure what to expect? You can view a sample page HERE.

Today I ask all to join together to pray that God continues to bestow His blessings on our wonderful country. We pray that the Almighty will strengthen America's families. A caring family is the foundation of a hopeful society. We pray that every child in America can grow up in a loving and stable home. We pray for the day when every child in America is welcomed in life and protected in law. And we pray that in every community across this great land, the Almighty will strengthen los valores de la familia y de la fe [values of family and faith]. —George W. Bush, June 26, 2008 at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast
