PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 20-26, 2008

President Bush spoke at the U.S. Transportation Department earilier this week, announcing expansion of airspace for civilian flights, the "Thanksgiving Express Lanes," to now include areas of the Midwest, Southwest and the West Coast in an effort to reduce holiday airline delays and boost flight capacity. Pray for safe travel across our country throughout the holiday season. Photo courtesy of the White House.

Pray for President Bush as he prepares for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC) in Lima, Peru November 20-23, asking God to protect and keep him, to guide him with his wisdom and to work throughout the APEC Summit. Pray for leaders from all these nations who will work on the most current critical economic and business issues facing the region and the global economy.  Pray for excellent encounters for President Bush, members of his team and all leaders represented there.

Pray also for President Bush as he hosts the annual White House Turkey pardoning in the Rose Garden on November 26.  Pray for the children who are invited to this special time to learn much and to experience great joy at the 61st occurrence of this White House tradition.

Pray for President Bush as he works for a strong and positive changeover with President Elect Obama’s transition team, asking for God’s wisdom and grace as he continues to serve our nation faithfully. Pray for continued relationships with world leaders and for encouragement as he expresses gratitude to those who have served his administration for many years.

Pray for President Bush and members of Congress as they work together this week on a plan to provide financial help to the automobile industry, asking God to provide His insight for the best way to help our nation’s auto makers.

Pray for President Elect Obama as he continues to consider which individuals are best suited to serve in key cabinet positions, asking God for great wisdom and discernment.  Possible considerations include Senator Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, Eric Holder as Attorney General and Peter R. Orszag to direct the Office of Management and Budget.

Pray for the crew of Space Shuttle Endeavour as they make a space walk to repair one of the solar panel wings on the International Space Station.  Pray for their safety and success of this important mission and for the spirit of God to be present with the astronauts throughout their day.

Pray for the members of President Elect Obama’s transition team as they communicate daily with members of President Bush’s administration seeking to enable a smooth and effective transition of power.  Pray particularly for Dan Terullo, liaison to Treasury Secretary Paulson, as the two men work together on concerns regarding the economic recovery plan—for wisdom and diligence as they work.

Pray for President Elect Obama and Mrs. Obama as they consider the details related to their move to Washington, D.C. after many years in Chicago, asking God for wisdom in decisions ranging from where daughters Malia and Sasha will attend school to what church the family will attend.  Pray for grace in these concerns, particularly that they will have the spiritual support and nurture they need as a family.

Pray for God’s complete protection for President Elect Obama, as threats and concerns continue to be raised.  Pray that any plots to harm him will be uncovered and stopped before they can be implemented.

Pray for the newly elected members of Congress as they prepare to step up in service to their constituents when the 111th Congress convenes in January, asking for God’s guidance for each one as they hire staff, open offices and make decisions regarding their residences, families and more.

Pray for all those who have been impacted by the brutal wildfires that ravaged parts of Southern California last week, asking God to comfort those who have lost homes and businesses, providing their every need from His vast resources.

Pray for strength, comfort and wisdom for Senator John McCain as he returns to the Senate to serve the country and the people of Arizona, stepping up to key roles of leadership in a variety of ways. Pray also for Governor Sarah Palin as she returns to Alaska to serve her constituents with dedication and faithfulness.  Pray also for members of both of the former candidate’s families as they re-adjust to life following the rigors of campaigning.

Continue to pray for the many families, business owners and workers who are deeply impacted by the current economic crisis, asking God to be their strength and comfort as they seek funding for their businesses and work to keep their homes and look for meaningful employment.  Pray that our nation’s churches and helping ministries will be enabled to step up and help where there are great needs.

Next week is National Bible Week, a time to draw attention God’s Word and its great value and impact in our lives.  Pray for the Bible to be lifted up as God’s love letter to humankind, praising Him for the meaningful and powerful ways He communicates truth, hope and help to us.  Pray for a great outpouring of interest in and passion for the Bible to sweep across our nation November 23-30 that many will grow in their love for God.  Pray also for Senator Daniel Akaka of Hawai’i and Congressman Todd Akin of Illinois, Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois and Mayor Jim Naugle of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as they work to promote National Bible Week in their respective circles of influence.

Members of our military labor diligently around the world in many positions—some dangerous, others nearly mundane.  Pray for the well-being of every member of the military in every aspect of their lives, asking God to draw them near to Him in love and grace.  Pray for families who will experience sorrow, hardship or lack during the holiday season due to a loved one’s service to country, giving thanks for the dedication and excellence of our troops.

INSPIRATIONAL REFERENCES
FOR THE WEEK

Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.
The Bible, Psalm 100:3-5  (NIV)

For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better.  I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and His incomparably great power for us who believe.

The Bible, Ephesians 1:15-19 (NIV)

President Elect Obama and his team have been working overtime on cabinet appointments, future initiatives and building relationships with foreign heads of state.  The remaining days until the election will pave the way for the new administration, and it’s crucial that we continue to support President Elect Obama, Vice President Elect Biden and all members of their administration with sincere prayer!

If you have not yet signed up to receive 77 Days of Prayer for Our New Presdient emails, we urge you to do so now.  We also invite you to make the numbers grow by telling a friend about 77 Days of Prayer.

WORDS FROM THE HONORARY COMMITTEE

Praising God for beauty, circumstances or life alone strengthens and changes us for the good,
says Stormie Omartian.

Every time you praise God, something changes within you, or your circumstances, or in the people or situations around you.  We can’t see all that is being affected, but we can trust that it is, because it is impossible to touch the presence of God and there not be changed.  The reason for that is you are coming in contact with all that God is, and that will affect all that you are. Praise is the prayer that changes everything.
Stormie Omartian, in The Prayer That Changes Everything

PRESIDENTIAL QUOTE
FOR THE WEEK

Photo courtesy of the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum.

We observe today not a victory of party, but a celebration of freedom - symbolizing an end, as well as a beginning - signifying renewal, as well as change. For I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three quarters ago.

The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe - the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Speech, January 20, 1961

WORDS FROM THE PRESIDENT
ON HIS FAITH

Photo courtesy of the White House.

I appreciate the participants who recognize the transformative and uplifting power of faith. One of my core beliefs is that there is an Almighty God -- and that every man, woman, and child on the face of this Earth bears His image. Many years ago, faith changed my life. Faith has sustained me through the challenges and the joys of my Presidency. And faith will guide me for the rest of my days.
George W. Bush, November 13, 2008

A City on a Hill--Governor John Winthrop’s Vision for New England

Indeed, those who first came to the shores of our great nation knew that God had guided them and was leading them in every step of their journey.  One such leader was Governor John Winthrop who came to New England aboard the Arabella in 1630.  Pursuing his passion to honor God and serve Him faithfully, Winthrop worked to found the Massachusetts Bay Colony. PRAYER QUOTE
FOR THE WEEK

The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.
Samuel Chadwick

PRAYER AND FAITH IN THE NEWS

Centennial State sued for 'Day of Prayer'

The Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) has filed a lawsuit against Colorado, claiming its official day of prayer violates the separation of church and state philosophy. But Mike Johnson, senior counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, says separation of church and state is not part of the United States Constitution. Read more.

A Seabee guides a convoy onto Camp Shelby MS during participation in a field training exercise called "Operation Desert Justice." The exercise tests the battalion's capabilities in a variety of scenarios in order to ensure their readiness for all situations.  Pray for all the members of our military as they train and equip for important responsibilities here and around the world.  Photo courtesy of the Department of Defense.

SSGT Vincent is currently stationed at an airbase in Texas. He's just passed his six year mark with the Air Force. We are proud of our son's service. God Bless all of our US military.

Rick is stationed in a combat area and does not know Jesus. I'm also certain the mother of his child does not know Jesus either. Will post more information when available. Thank you for praying!

Thank you for all your prayers! Charn returned home last week and we are delighted that he is healthy and happy to be back. Praise the Lord!

Blake comes home in a month. Pray for details of travel will go smoothly. He hasn't been going to the clubs as much and staying in his room more. It doesn't look like his girlfriend will work out. Pray for strength to move forward and God will give him eyes to see & what he needs to do and learn through this. He had hopes to marry this girl but she is not ready to commit and has some relationship issues. They both need prayer. Thank you and God bless.

We are rejoicing because Christopher is due to arrive home to Fort Campbell on Sunday! He has been 14 months in a combat area, and we are praising our Lord for his safe return to active duty in the USA! Only our Lord can be credited with his safe return as he was engaged in combat nearly every day of his deployment. Please continue to pray for all of our troops as they serve so bravely in every branch of the military in every corner of our world. Christopher's brother, Marc, is a brand new Marine, and will also proudly be serving our great country for at least four years. God bless America!

Our son, Jesse, will be heading to combat area right after their daughter is born and just before Christmas. Keep us all in prayer.
